Gorbaciòf
(Gorbaciòv - Il cassiere col vizio del gioco)
Consummate film and theatre star Toni Servillo wowed audiences in Il divo and Gommorah and is once again mesmerizing in Gorbaciòf, infusing the tough title role with very little dialogue, but just the right gestures to convey a fascinating character.
Marino Pacileo has a red birthmark on his head – hence his nickname, Gorbaciòf. He also leads a routine, lonely life, barely communicating and spending his working hours as a crooked accountant in a tiny office at Poggioreale Prison in Naples. At the end of each day Pacileo goes to the backroom of a fried food shop, where he has two secret loves: the game of poker, and a Chinese girl called Lila. When he decides to help Lila's father repay a debt, Pacileo's life of crime spirals out of control. And it seems there is no turning back…
Director Stefano Incerti brings together Toni Servillo's bravura talent and cinematographer Pasquale Mari's superb camerawork to make a lean, meticulous film that delivers real drama, and a surprising romance between two people who do not even speak each other's language.
